So I found this amazing and unique Daybed at Ikea. What's so amazing about it you wonder? Well it's not just a normal daybed you see because there is no trundle. No, Ikea did not include a trundle on their new daybeds. Why you ask? Because they did something even better. They created a daybed that not only has the beautiful storage drawers underneath, but extends from the front, pulling out into a king sized bed. Yes you have it viewers, a king size bed. How do they do it you wonder? Well the bed sits like a normal daybed during the daylight hours, but once the twilight hits, you pull that entire front piece out, and pull over one of the 2 double stacked twin mattresses and BAM. King sized bed. Amazing.
My cousin Evey went with me to pick it up, and since we were there and she was curious, we went up to the display room and I showed her it. This bed was soft and comfortable. Perfect for a double duty space in my living room, and it has a canopy. So Evey says... "Yours needs one of these too!"
I say, "A canopy?"
She says, "Yeah..."
So there you have it. I made a canopy for my king sized Ikea daybed in just the right hues of green and blue to finally create the perfect fluffy living room! And here is how I did it!
You will need:
10yds of one color tulle
10yds of second color tulle
(these could be the same color if you wanted, but I wanted both of my colors)
Craft Paint color of choice
Hot glue gun
Hot glue
Scissors
Ribbon
Sewing / Embroidery Hoop of the size you want.
(You can purchase these in those departments at JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby)
Step 1
Paint the embroidery hoop inside and out the color you picked out
I used white because it matches the daybed
Embroidery hoops usually come in that one natural color of wood
Step 2
Fold both pieces of tulle in half and cut them
when you cut them you will have 2 5yds pieces of tulle in each color
or 4 5yd pieces of tulle in the single color
Step 3
Pull your embroidery hoop apart and take out the middle piece
Evenly mark the sides to create 4 1/4 lengths
I want the blue pieces to be in the front for this so I am going to start
with blue on the one side and continue it to the marking
I am applying a squiggly line of glue along the natural side of the wood and
pressing the tulle into it as I go, bunching it in places
to add more depth.
Once I finish with one side of the blue, I am going to do the other side in blue
making sure to leave an opening in the front for it to part.
I have officially finished gluing on both sides of the blue.
Step 4
Time for the green.
I am going to start at one of the blue marked ends
because I did not sew any of this,
I'm going to create a small overlap of green
over the end of the blue
I'm going to carry this piece of green all the way to the hash mark at the 1/4 spot
Then I will again overlap green over green and take it all the way back
to the blue on the other side and overlap again green over blue.
Now the tulle is officially glued to the outside rim of the inside embroidery hoop.
Step 5
Like all people I'm sure you're going to want to hang this
So I am going to use a ribbon of similar color to create the ties to hang
this beautiful handmade canopy over the daybed.
I am going to glue at least 4 strands to this outside layer
but instead of them going down the length of the tulle, make sure they are going up.
Step 6
Now to clean up the edges with a pair of scissors!
Yes, it's that simple!
Step 7
We are now going to put the inside of the embroidery hoop
back into the outside, and lock it down.
TADA!
You just made a very simple bed canopy!
Step 8
Hang it above your desired bed!
ENJOY!
Note: When you do hang it make sure to use a hook that will be secure in either the drywall or the stud. Hang them with care, and use a hook that will be able to withstand the weight.
You can consult your local hardware store !
Teal Bookcase
You will need:
A bookcase
Sand Paper or Sander
Paint
Sponge paint roller
polyacrilic sealer
Painters plastic
Step 1
If you already have the bookcase and are just looking to repaint it,
GREAT
But I bought mine new, and was able to paint it before putting it together.
Either way you need to do it is fine.
Because these bookcases have a veneer you need to sand them
you can either use a sander
or sand paper
by sanding the bookcase or pieces
you are creating a surface that will allow the paint to stick.
Step 2
Lay down the painters plastic and get to work
using a paint roller and a sponge replacement roll
you will get a nice even surface.
You may have to do touch ups
Step 3
After the paint has dried and it is the color you want it
we're going to seal it with a polyacrilic
it has a strong odor so it's best to do this outside
Step 4
If your bookcase was already together then you can move it around and do the touch ups now
but if you need to put it together, now is the time
Step 5

Lime Green Filing Cabinet
File cabinet
Screw driver
at least 2 cans of spray paint for a 2 drawer
Step 1
I am going to be using this lime green Rustolem spray paint.
Spray paint is very toxic so please do this outside
Take off the handle on each of the drawers because the steel contrasts creates a cool look
you can pop off the rest with a flat screw driver
Step 2
Lay out all of the pieces and space them out
use the spray can and go back and forth very slowly because it will
create an even color
and will also prevent nasty bubbles.
Step 3
Let this dry
and then go back over it at least one more time
I have found that most of the time you will miss something in the first attempt
I used 2 cans of spray paint
Step 4
Pop the metal back onto the front and replace the handles
ENJOY
